Ingredients
  

  • 2 cup(s) dried black beans, washed
  • 64 floz water
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon(s) salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon(s) black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon(s) vegetable oil

Instructions
 

  • Place the beans and water in a large pot and bring to a boil.
  • Cover, reduce to a simmer and cook for 1 hour and 20 minutes.
  • Crush the beans in their liquid with a potato masher or the back of a large spoon.
  • Cook garlic, salt and pepper in oil in a skillet over moderate heat, stirring about 1 minute.
  • Add the beans with their liquid cooking over medium heat, stirring frequently.
  • Once the liquid evaporates and the beans form a creamy consistency remove from heat.
  • Serve warm with shredded cheddar cheese, if desired.
